The first self-service shop by B&B HOTELS — at B&B Hotel Kaiserslautern

Guests who check in late or leave early rarely feel like hunting for the nearest open supermarket. That is exactly why B&B HOTELS wanted a shop of its own in the lobby of its Kaiserslautern hotel: drinks, snacks, fresh food and coffee — available even when nobody is at the reception desk.

The requirements: the shop had to run without staff, be self-explanatory for guests and still stay secure. For the B&B chain it was the first shop of its kind — so there was no in-house blueprint to follow.

Together with HT Shop Solutions and the B&B HOTELS team, we supported the shop from planning to go-live and installed and set up the complete technology.

• Access terminal at the entrance: entry by bank card, independent of reception hours
• Self-checkout: guests scan their items themselves and pay cashlessly by card — credit and debit cards as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay
• Camera system with a live monitor in the sales area, keeping an eye on the shop
• Network and Wi-Fi as the foundation for access, checkout and cameras
• Fit-out of the shop with refrigeration units, coffee machine and product shelving
• Commissioning, functional testing and an on-site briefing for the hotel team

The shop at B&B Hotel Kaiserslautern is open: guests enter with their bank card, take what they need and pay at the checkout themselves — no queueing, and no one from the hotel team has to be assigned to it.

What we enjoyed most was the collaboration: B&B HOTELS and HT Shop Solutions worked with us openly and quickly from day one, turning a pilot project into a well-rounded result. As the chain’s first shop it also serves as the blueprint for further properties — and we would be glad to be part of that again.
